Weekend Wrap-Up

Where did the weekend go?!  I feel like the Monday blues hit me at 6:00 pm Sunday, ugh.  P.S. sorry I didn’t re-cap week 7 of my half marathon training, life just got in the way.  I promise I’ll post it later this week, and I swear I did run haha!

I had such a fun weekend, and the weather finally felt like spring!  It’s making me so excited for longer and warmer days, complete with sitting on my back deck with a glass of wine in hand 🙂

Here’s how my weekend looked:

Saturday:  I woke up at 5:30 to prep for my first double digit long run!  A little scary, but exciting at the same time.  You already know what my pre-run fuel was.

But this time I had the caramel macchiato Gu!  It was pretty good, but I think the Espresso Love is my fave so far.

The weather Saturday morning was perfect for a long run.  It was just about 40 degrees and clear.  The sunrise was beautiful as I pulled up to the parking lot.

I felt pretty good overall, but could feel myself fading the last twoish miles.  Two thoughts ran through my mind: I wish I had brought my handheld water bottle, and I think I should’ve started fueling earlier in my run.  I didn’t think about bringing water with me, but I really should’ve.  I could feel my legs getting heavy and the dehydration kick in.  At least I know for next time!

I averaged an overall 9:23/mile pace, so not too shabby for my first double digit long run.

Hopefully my last couple long runs will feel a little bit easier with some water and taking in a Gu earlier.  Any feedback on this is welcomed!

I fueled up with some chocolate protein oatmeal post-run and foam rolled like a champ.

Every time I see pics of my oatmeal I feel like it looks so nasty but I swear it’s delicious!  Brandon has even asked me to make it for him, so that has to count for something.

I also discovered a favorite new snack Saturday afternoon:

Roasted unsalted cashews with chocolate chips!  Amazing.  I don’t know why I’ve never combined the two before.

Saturday evening, Brandon and I headed to Maryland to see his family for dinner.  Brandon’s birthday is Tuesday so they wanted to celebrate beforehand since he’ll be traveling this week for work.  We went to a Mexican restaurant near their house, and it was so much fun!

His dad cracks me up.

P.S. you can’t go to a Mexican restaurant and not have fried ice cream.  I mean, technically I guess you can, but why would you???  Just look at this plate of deliciousness!

After dinner we headed back to watch the Caps/Devils hockey game–Caps won, woo!  We didn’t end up getting back to D.C. until a little before midnight, and we promptly passed out.

Sunday:  I woke up refreshed and well-rested around 8:30 and headed out for a quick 3 mile recovery run.  I seriously can’t tell you how happy I was to run outside two days in a row!  I was even warm enough afterwards to have a smoothie!

I combined frozen strawberries and 1/2 banana, spinach, almond milk, and protein powder.  You can’t go wrong with that combo.

I headed to TJ’s afterwards for a quick grocery shopping trip–I had to hurry since I was meeting some of my friends for brunch that afternoon.  I remembered to take a pic of the sweet potato wedges for you guys!

Please go out and buy them ASAP.  I also came back with a container of these bad boys to try.

Yes the container was opened 5 minutes after I got home to taste test.  I had to make sure they were worth it!  Survey says: they’re worth it.

After my Trader Joe’s trip I walked over to Eastern Market to meet some friends for brunch at Lavagna.  D.C. friends, if you’ve never been you need to go–they have one of the best bottomless mimosa options in the city!

I ordered eggs, foccacia toast with honey butter, bacon, and fruit to go along with my mimosas.

I ate it all and also stole a bite of my friend’s marscapone Nutella pancakes.  That’s how I roll.  It was super fun to catch up with everyone.

P.S. Lavagna doesn’t skimp with their bottomless mimosas–look at the size of those glasses!

The rest of my Sunday was spent finishing up some work, doing laundry, and spending time with Brandon before he leaves for New York.  Hope you guys have a great Monday!

Share your weekend highlights!

Do you taste test as soon as you get home from the grocery store?

Fried ice-cream, yay or nay?

Lavagna is one of my favorite restaurants!!!! It’s awesome and yet, I still kind of feel like it’s a hidden gem. Great run. I definitely would carry water for ten miles – especially as the temps rise. I need fuel typically if I’m running more than ten. I don’t do gu (can’t stomach it) but you probably do need something if you are running for over 1.5 hours. Also think about it this way – you’ve been up for awhile and your body is hungry!! Fun weekend!

I think it’s a hidden gem too, especially for dinner! It’s always so quiet and cozy in there, but I think it’s becoming a popular brunch spot now! I’m excited to see how I feel this weekend when I bring my handheld with me, hopefully it makes a difference.

I have never tried fried ice cream! But it sounds delicious. That sunrise from your run looks amazing! For me fueling depends on how long I am running and how much I ate before. If I only had a banana before my run then I usually bring fuel if Im running more than like 90 minutes.

Great double digit run! Love that you have espresso before the long runs – a girl after my own heart. Even if oatmeal pics aren’t the prettiest, I still salivate over them because I know how good they taste! And the brunch sounds amazing. My perfect kind of sunday 🙂

Omg I am so happy I discovered espresso as part of my pre-run fuel! I was missing coffee but can’t have a full cup before my run. The brunch was delicious, but the bottomless mimosa option gets dangerous!
